SEMC Federal Credit Union
was chartered as a federal credit union in 1970. It was started by a
small group of employees of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington,
Kentucky. These few saw a need for a credit union that would serve
the employees of the hospital. In 1978 St. Elizabeth's South Unit
was built in Edgewood, Kentucky and the hospital became St.
Elizabeth Medical Center. As the South Unit grew, so did the credit
union. In 1989 the credit union moved its main office to the South
Unit in Edgewood, but maintained a branch office in the Covington
hospital.
In 1989, Tri State Health was added to the credit
union's field of membership. Over the years, Summit Health Group,
St. Elizabeth Grant County, Anesthesiology Associates,
Tristate, Transcare, and Commonwealth Orthopedic Centers were also
added.
In June 1999, the credit union move off site from the
hospital and in 2008 we moved to our current location at 577 Dudley
Road in Edgewood, Kentucky. This is now the main office for SEMC
Federal Credit Union. In February 2009, we
merged with St Luke Credit Union. With this merger we added two
additional locations (Fort Thomas and Florence) along with
the office located at St. Elizabeth
Healthcare in Edgewood.
SEMC Federal Credit Union has seen
tremendous growth over the 40+ years of its existence. Assets have
tripled since 1990. Many services have been added. The credit union
is now full-service, with checking accounts, online home
banking, Bill Pay, ATM machines at the St.
Elizabeth Medical Center South and North locations, the Grant
County Medical Center, and at the Main office on Dudley Road.
Even with the
expansion and growth that has been seen, SEMC Federal Credit Union
remains faithful to the vision of the few who saw a need in 1970 and
acted to give the employees a financial institution where they are
not customers, they are members.
